Fortior Solutions announced the launch of a new handheld scanner that enables security personnel to more quickly and efficiently electronically scan and read the IDs of individuals seeking access to military bases, critical infrastructure facilities and other secure locations.
The Hillsboro based company is integrating the next-generation handheld scanner into the company’s enterprise vendor and visitor identity management solutions. Scan results are generated to security personnel (e.g., sentries, military police, and security guards) in less than two seconds for most IDs.
Fortior Solutions conducted extensive technology research and evaluation before selecting its sixth generation handheld scanner. The scanner, provisioned with the company’s proprietary software, is user friendly with intuitive and simple-to-read screens. The battery life has increased by several hours and scan speed times have dropped to less than two seconds for IDs including driver’s licenses, state IDs, TWICs, military IDs (CACs, retired and dependent credentials), passports, passport cards, and PIV-I/PIV.
The increased scan speed enables security personnel to make informed access decisions faster than ever, which further reduces the time it takes for individuals and vehicles to get through access points. The new handheld scanner also offers the ability to electronically scan an MRZ barcode which is commonly used for passports and passport cards. An additional important enhancement is that the handheld scanner offers roaming capabilities so that security personnel can electronically verify individuals throughout a facility – not just at a single access control point.
